A war in the Swedish blogosphere

27 Jun 2007 | Tagged as: Blogs, Brands & branding, Media, Communication

There is a very lively debate going on right now in the Swedish blogosphere about a new blog service from the free newspaper Metro. This service promises to pay bloggers per page view. But when Makan Amini launched a blog using this service to raise one million Swedish crowns for charity, Metro decided to shut down this blog.

In a video on YouTube you can hear a representative from Metro claiming that they were not ready for this kind of massive traffic and that they were not quite there yet with ad sales. But is that really justification enough to shut down this blog? And is it even a smart move from Metro?

I don´t think so. This is just the kind of moves from old media companies that totally alienates serious bloggers and is extremely hard, if not impossible, to repair.
